Calendula: In a clinical study, patients undergoing radiation therapy who applied calendula had fewer incidences of radiation dermatitis, fewer interruptions in treatment due to radiation dermatitis, and less pain than a group using a traditional substance.

Aloe Vera: A review of 14 clinical trials totaling 1572 patients concluded aloe vera was associated with a significant reduction in the incidence and severity of radiation dermatitis.

Green Tea (EGCG): In a clinical trial involving breast cancer patients, EGCG, from green tea, was shown to significantly reduce the incidence and severity of radiation dermatitis.

Rad Remedy has been clinically tested and determined to be safe for sensitive skin with a low risk of causing allergic reactions. We do, however, advise patients to test our product first on a small patch of skin before applying to large areas.

For best results, start applying 1–2 weeks prior to radiation treatments. Apply gently at least 2x a day but can be applied as often as desired.

Do not apply 1 hour before radiation treatment.

Discontinue if skin ulceration develops as a result of radiation treatment and notify your healthcare provider. If a rash occurs, please discontinue use.

Caution: For topical external skin use only. Avoid eye contact. Before regular use, test lotion on a small area on wrist or forearm, if rash, itch, or redness occurs, discontinue and consult your physician.

More Calendula than Other Radiation Relief Creams

Rad Remedy contains both calendula oil and CO₂ calendula extract, an ingredient not found in other radiation relief creams. Our CO₂ extract delivers a higher concentration of calendula's beneficial compounds, enhancing the cream's powerful skin-soothing properties.

It's also what gives Rad Remedy its natural yellow color, which will not stain clothing.

Rad Remedy FAQs

Best results are achieved when Right Remedy is applied starting 1-2 weeks before your radiation treatments commence and continuing for 3-4 weeks after your last treatment. If you wait to start it until your skin is in significant distress, it will help, but you will not obtain the full benefit.

Rad Remedy should be applied at least twice a day, but you may apply it as often as desired to calm and moisturize your skin.

Patients usually go through 1-2 tubes.

Patients receiving radiation treatments are usually advised to not apply cream to their skin within one hour of their radiation treatments. Why is this? There is some evidence that thick globs of cream on the skin at the time of your treatment can increase the dose of radiation delivered to the skin in that location, worsening skin reactions. Studies show, however, this is a concern only if the cream thickness is >3 mm. That being said, we still advise against applying creams within one hour of treatments.

If you develop moist open wounds from your radiation treatments, it is best to stop using Rad Remedy and consult your health care provider. Sometimes they will need to prescribe topical and/or oral antibiotics (if there is evidence of a secondary infection), or bandages to help with wound healing. Please note, your radiation oncology team (technicians, nurses, radiation oncologist) are trained to monitor your skin throughout your treatment. However, reactions often peak 1–2 weeks after treatments conclude, so seek advice if your skin condition worsens post treatment.

No, Rad Remedy does not contain any added artificial fragrance. Artificial fragrances are the leading cause of contact dermatitis allergies.

Rad Remedy can be applied to calm dry, itchy, irritated, burning skin conditions that occur due to chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments. It can also be applied to sunburns.

Patients undergoing radiation therapy are typically advised not to apply cream to their skin within one hour of treatment. Why? There is some evidence that thick layers of cream present on the skin during treatment may increase the dose of radiation delivered to the skin, potentially worsening skin reactions. However, studies show this is only a concern when the cream layer is thicker than 3 mm. That said, out of an abundance of caution, we still recommend avoiding cream application within one hour before your radiation session.

If you develop moist open wounds as a result of your radiation treatments, discontinue use of Rad Remedy and consult your healthcare provider. In some cases, prescription topical or oral antibiotics may be necessary if there is evidence of a secondary infection. Your provider may also recommend specific bandages to support wound healing. Please note, your radiation oncology team (technicians, nurses, and radiation oncologist) are trained to monitor your skin throughout your treatment. However, reactions often peak 1–2 weeks after treatments conclude, so seek advice if your skin condition worsens post-treatment.
